Andrejs Grants is one of the greatest b/w film photographers still working today. He comes from Latvia, and as a person is modest, shy and with a fine twist of humour. During our correspondence he was always very kind and friendly while he never neglected to wish me good luck with my work.
I hope you like my portrait of him. -ION

Brilliant! The expression, subdued and slightly unreal tones, and framing clouds/horizon work very well together. His shirt, the sky and his beard and skin are actually part of a continuous progression of allied color. Really lovely work. I suspect you'll be showing this forever - well done! If you feel like being community-minded, you could consider uploading a low resolution of the image to Wikipedia as his page currently has no portrait.

Many thanks for your comments to you both Vidau and Walter de la Internet! If you don't mind, I'll put them on my facebook wall when I'll publish this specific portrait there, because I feel they are precise and fair and will compliment the picture in a nice way. Ok?

To Carsten Pauer 2: I'm afraid my answer won't be very exciting on this one. I always use natural light for my portraits. With Mr Grants however, I had to do an exception. It was a combination of natural light and of a small bounce ceiling flash. We had very little time at our disposal [his wife and the (very friendly!) Latvian Ambassador were waiting next door for other commitments].

Sure thing, but I'm still not seeing the portrait displayed on his wikipedia page! If you upload a lower resolution with a free license and mention in the file comments that you have a high resolution available for commercial licensing then you might even score some business out of it, so it's not pure charity...

I'll have to check with Mr Grants before doing so I guess. Thanks for your interest and idea Walter!
