I have a project that would need me video stitch a background to a foreground. Then found that most camera can't shot at small aperture, f/22. I try it with my nikon D90 and Nikon V1. Any idea how to shot video at f/22?

For deep focus, you probably don't need an aperture that small.

Some believe that small aperture simply yields bad results. See:

By "stitch" do you mean an overlay with a soft boundary or green screen?

Hi jKoch2,

Yes you are right, By "stitch" I mean overlay. Just like what is shown in the first 8 seconds of below video.

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't help me here.

I have a project to shot a performance on stage with some puppets playing in the foreground. My shot then need to "stitch/overlay" the performance and the puppets playing in front. End result will be similar to what is shown in the youtube video above. The puppets can not be too far from the camera. This is to ensure an easier coordination between me and the puppets players. The puppets size also affect my camera distance to it.

In my case, the puppets are less than 1m from my camera and I need to use a 20mm lens on a 1" CCD (Nikon 1) camera due to space constrain. The f/22 is actually derive from the concept of 'hyperfocus'. Based on above specification, I downloaded an apps that help me calculate the hyperfocus distance of the setting. It end up to be 1.67m @ f/22 and my depth of field will start from 0.84m to infinity. Alternatively, I can keep the focus at 1.67m @ f/16 and my depth of field will then start from 0.97m to 6.09m.

Actually, both settings works in photography mode. When switch to video mode, the whole screen dim down even in normal lighting condition and maximum ISO of the camera. Reason I believe is due to the fast video frame rate (shutter speed) of video. I tried this on my D90 too and it doesn't works. Only through this that I notice my cameras can not shot at f/22 under normal lighting condition.

That is why I'm here to gets some helps and opinions. Anything wrong with the workflow I had? I am a photographer more than a movie maker. ;-)

Thanks and Regards,
