Greetings,

I enjoy the additional grip offered by an ever-ready case. Generally, I use the bottom half only when out and about and use the top half for secure travel. As most of you know, the zr700/800 series does not have a VF and the LCD can be hard to see in bright light. Problem solved - get a Clearvewer.

My Problem: The additional thickness of the bottom lip of the case concerned me that I would have to hack and possibly ruin a fine product like the Clearviewer. Additionally, I liked the suggestion of another forum member who inquired about a viewer that might fold under the camera (serving as a stand) while also allowing for optional use of the LCD without removing the viewer.

Disclaimer: this is NOT a Clearviewer. It is my custom adaptation of a magnifier (intended for another use). It has a 5X, 30mm (1 inch) glass lens. The end result is not quite as compact as the above because of the case issue but it serves my unique need.

This experiment might serve as inspiration for a commercially made viewer for other's who have a similar need. Maybe no one cares, just thought I would share.

Looks like a good work-around, thanks for following up on your earlier mention of a "case viewer".

Not sure what the 'satnd' function does, but you did a nice job!

Rather than a case, which adds bulk IMHO, I prefer to carry a camera in my trouser pocket - but always with a plastic bag to keep pocket lint & other gunk out: some years ago, I lost my Minolta Xi to lint that got into the "sealed" lens unit and so far the bag (a grocery store "sandwich bag" - the open type) has done the job.

Given that you tend to carry your camera with you most of the time, I understand your desire to keep it's profile to a minimum. Along with your trusty plastic bag, you can't do much better than that.

Oh, the stand function is just a perceived bonus of the magnifier folding under the camera. As there is the plate mount, cover snap and the case thumb screw .... the stand function raises the camera just enough for all the bits and bobs to clear and provides a solid surface to set the camera level when using the timer and trying to get a group shot, a selfie or a rock steady shot when a tripod is not available.

Thanks for saying it looks like a good workaround. I'm happy with the way it turned out.
