Hi Guys

Has anyone used this lens, how is it and is it worth the money?

Thanks in advance

You might search in the Oly DSLR forum for examples taken with the 14-35--it's quite well regarded and in the right hands, produces spectacular images. It's very sharp at f:2 across the zoom range and is said to focus well on the E-M1. Finally, it bears noting it's quite large.

I have its larger brother, the 35-100, and love it to death.

Cheers,

Rick

Huge, massive lens. I tried one a few years ago in the store on my Olympus E520 DSLR, which is probably about the size of an E-M1. Constant f2 zoom and built like a tank. When you have it in your hands, you can see why the thing costs $2,300 new.

If you really need it, it's worth the money, but the only Micro body I would use it on would be the E-M1 to have the best possible AF performance.

Yeah, if you don't have an EM1, might as well get the Sigma 18-35mm and a speed booster to sate your aperture lust.

That thing is a Beast! Wish I had one.

I see KEH has one in Like New Minus condition, which would be practically new, with the hood, caps and case for $1,800. I also noted the weight at 900 grams, which is basically as heavy as an E-M1 body (497 grams) and 12-40mm f2.8 M. Zuiko (382 grams) combined.

I have been using this lens about 80% of the time first with my E-5 and now with my EM-1....this lens alone with the 35-100 2.0 are probably 2 BIG reasons I have never jumped to another brand and with the advent of EM-1 is another Big reason......When I do event and weddings the 14-35 is outstanding in sharpness, contrast and bokeh giving you the perfect range with 2.0 throughout ...if you have a chance and it is affordable for you I would definitely consider this very special lens...John

All Olympus SHG lenses including 14-35mm you are asking about are great lenses. Difficult to find the equal glass quality from other brands.

If you have the budget and don't mind the size and weight, all Olympus SHG lenses worth ecery penny you spend on it.

Fast, and very sharp lens. You need an EM1 for good focus performance.

However, its absolutely huge, heavy and incredibly expensive. For not much more money you can pick up a Sigma 24-70/2.8 HSM or Tamron 24-70/2.8 and an older gen FF Nikon or Canon camera which will give you more DOF control for not much more size/weight. Heck, or even a Sigma 18-35/1.8 on an APS-C body.

I would go for the 12-40/2.8 or 12-35/2.8 which are both fantastic lenses and half or less the size/weight/price but only a stop slower.

I have both the 35-100 and the 14-35 and they're both incredible. They're heavy as heck but the images it produces is well worth it..

Oh I have no doubt about that. The question I would ask is the size/weight/cost worth it for one stop over the (also incredible) Panasonic 35-100/2.8, 12-35/2.8 or Oly 12-40/2.8?

I find it difficult to believe that it is, but I switched to M43rds to get away from huge lenses (Had sigma 24-70/2.8, 70-200/2.8, 35/1.4, 50/1.4 and 85.1.4 along with Sony A900).

I suppose if you don't prioritize size and weight, and can afford the 14-35, there isn't much reason not to get it.

I always thought the Zuiko name had an interesting sound when you pronounce it.
