Help- banding in LR5 exported JPEGs

Hi,

I have an issue with layered color abnormalities when I export X-E1 files out of LR5. In the examples below, I have used some graduated filters with exposure and saturation adjustments, and they look within Lightroom, but when I export to JPEGs, I get this funky layering of colors (purple and aqua) that wasn't at all visible during editing in LR. I export to JPEGs using sRBG at 100% quality. I tried using Adode and ProPhoto formats instead of sRBG, and it didn't make any difference.

I don't have these issues with my Nikon D7100 or other digital cameras. Any ideas on what is going on? Is this a Fuji sensor issue, a Lightroom issue, or am I expecting to much from Lightroom?

Thanks,

Dave

I'm wondering if the lack of responses is because the banding is visible? Perhaps it has something to do with my graphics card or monitor???

I don't see banding at all on a 27" monitor. Nice pictures. But if I decide to pixel-peep at 100% I see lots of artifacts in the sky. I usually get them if I don't remove noise prior to sharpening. Dfine in NIK tools cleans up this type of noise nicely.

I am no expert when it comes to RAW processing (90% or my work is jpeg straight from cam) but you could try removing noise as a first step prior to advancing in your processing flow.

When clicking on either image and checking them out via the "Loupe" tool they are both seriously riddled with noise. My publisher would laugh at me if I sent anything like them in.

When I RAW process (which is not often) I always get noise out of the way as a first step if its there. Try that and see if it solves your strange banding compliant - I'm not sure how it could but it's worth a try.

No obvious banding seen here. As the others have said, lots of noise at 100%.

The photo was shot at base ISO (200) so I didn't bother with noise, as typically, the noise at base ISO is so fine that is doesn't show unless you pixel peep. Nonetheless, as was mentioned, it could impact the color stratification I am seeing, but I'm starting to think its a monitor issue, as I'm not seeing it on other screens.

Anyway, I went into light room and moved my LR5 noise reduction slider to 42, which seemed to clean up virtually all the noise without impacting sharpness too much. Here is the result.

It's interesting-- within Lightroom, there is no noise visible and some areas like the sand look perfectly natural. For some reason, when LR exports to JPEG the conversion introduces noise, and takes away some of the finer brightness and color gradations in the sand. Again, I'm exporting at 100% quality to sRBG. I also tried exporting with and without screen sharpening and it had no impact.

Here is another one, in this case I took the luminance noise reduction slider up to 55 to eliminate the noise (I think this show was undererxposed a bit which is causing the issue.)

And a new image I've been working on.
