What are the best PCMIA storage options (for Kodak DCS 520)?

Imaging Spectrum and B&H seem to be selling 512MB Lexar PCMIA Type II flash cards... Then there are Microdrives with PCMIA adapters... Other CF with PCMIA adapters... And finally PCMIA hard drives I have heard about.

What do you Kodak users store your photos on?

My minimum requirement would be 512MB if using two cards (i.e. Type II cards), or in the case of one card (i.e. Type III cards) a minimum 1GB storage space. Of course I'd probably expand upon this in the future.

Thanks for the help.

(very strongly considering Kodak 520)

It depends... If your camera takes CompactFlash just use the card as is and don't use the PCMIA adapter at all. If you have a camera that uses PCMIA storage it will allow you to use the CF card in that camera. If you want to use the PCMIA adapter with a computer that doesn't have a PCMIA slot (usually only notebooks do) you can buy IEEE 1394 (Firewire) or USB readers, just like you can by CF reader, SD reader, etc.

That said the whole thing really is a non-issue if your camera uses CF, unless of course you have a notebook with a PCMIA slot where you just pop the card (in the adapter) into your PCMIA slot and read it as a removable disk... Or at least that's how it's supposed to work.

so pcmcia adapter can only support laptop right?

sigh so the only option for me is buying an ac adapter since canon a40 doesnt come with ac adapter and tranferring images to pc is really draining up the battery. and furthermore i dont have a laptop

but thx anyway :)

You can get a PCMIA card reader (external) that will hook up to your desktop through FireWire or USB.

The easiest way is just to get a CF card reader (USB or, preferably - if you have it - Firewire). They are cheap and take up little space and the good ones are very fast. I don't think there is a need to plug the camera itself in (after all, with the PCMIA adapter and a laptop you woudln't be doing this).

So long as you have a USB port you can easily use something like this:

B&H sells the Compact Flash version for $30. Should be cheaper than an AC adapter...
