Heading to Russia this summer…Moscow and Saint Petersburg… can’t decide which camera to take and would like you guys to weight in on this.

Here is some background.

I have a Leica V-lux 4 which shoots GREAT pictures and has that amazing constant 2.8 lens 25-600mm (or something like… that I am not looking at specs right now so do not plow into me for having the wrong numbers…you get the point. The lens can do it all. However it does have a small sensor. But I never blow anything up beyond 11x17 anyway…)

On the other hand I also have a Fuji XPro 1 and plan to carry a Fujifilm XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS lens.

Here’s the question…which of these two cameras would you take and why? I have shot with both and both produce outstanding pix for me. The Leica offers quite a bit more range and the Fuji much more sensor space… Both work well indoors, while the Leica has a superior look in low light such as museums. (But just so…)

I shoot exclusively in RAW.

Go to folks. I await your educated responses. No bashing brands here. This is for me.

I'd personally take the Fuji. For me, the camera I enjoy more is usually the one I go with. Also for travel, I'd really want the low light capability of the APS-C sensor and in the event I was to capture a really special image... I'd want to have the best image possible.

Every time I took a "convenience" camera on a trip - I regretted it.

Hi, take the Leica, cover up the Red Dot with a piece of black tape..Enjoy Russia..

In 2011 I travelled all over Europe, in the naughtier parts I slid the X1 into a black cloth lens bag, cut a hole for the lens and had a great deal of fun..........

I like the larger sensor. When i travel with just one it is a Ricoh GR, 28mm&35mm with a crop feature. If you need small and zoom take the Leica

Take both? But a nice fast prime on the Fuji for when it matters. Or a good macro for close up stuff (shops, food and museums). Depends really on what you want to achieve...and your style. By the way...a late night call to your hotel room offering to supply a blanket might result in a surprise!

You've stacked the deck in favor of your compact and why not? If you're happy with it use it. If it does what you want and you're happy with the result what's the issue?

When I travel, I take my M9 with a 28mm lens, a feww batteries and a charger. Add a blower brush and a spare card and that is it.

I recomend you take with you the camera you feel most at home using.

Take both. The Fuji should be primary and the Leica as a back-up.

Thanks to all who replied. I believe the Fuji wins out overall. (sensor size...)
