Sony a99 SteadyShot ERROR?

Hey!

I was shooting some photos with my a99 today, and I got a big black box with text on the front of my screen saying something about a steady shot error. When I pressed okay an orange texted error stayed on the screen. I was able to continue shooting, but if I went to menu the error would pop up again and when I moved over to steady shot it was grayed out and off. (For photo and video)

Anyone struggle with this before and know of a fix?

Thanks!

What I did was initialize the camera, the error disappeared for a while but it is on again, they suggest sending the camera for service

Yep, same thing with my A65. But I did drop it before the error message showed up!

Anyway, the camera can still be used, but none of the effects which require any processor determined sensor movement are able to be of benefit to the user. Probably does not make a lot of difference with shutter speeds on greater than the lenses focal length in fractions of a second is used...well, in most cases. Panorama cannot work properly without SSS, so a bit of a drama there.

Cost quoted to buy the part to fix it is nearly more than the camera cost new. Basically the Steady Shot unit is the whole damn sensor mechanism... Anyway, I can't (and haven't been able to since 2015) buy a new SLT A65 in Australia, thanks to Sony's silly sales policies in Oz.

I don't like using things that don't work, so look out for my comprehensive kit on eBay,

I'm off to Olympus land where a EM5 Mk II awaits...

I have just had this error for the 3rd time every time it’s been repaired by Sony for a big fee ! It’s also always turned off and I only use it every now and then it happens every few months with me using it every weekend for 2-3 hours Because of this problem I have a black patch up the top left of my photos ! Also it’s annoying the error continuously pops up when trying to ignore it !

Thanks for bumping this old thread - indicative that your search on a99 error yielded only this and the other one as proof for the rarity of the issue.

Let's see if you find more.

Hi Bruce,

thanks for dropping by forum 1037 three years after you dropped your a65 .
The Em5 and the Em10 are both working fine!
Nice to know - but did you ever put them to the same drop test you executed on your last Sony Alpha? And if so, with what result?
Sorry Sony, but you lost me 3 years ago!
Sony Alpha and Oz was - and remains - a unhappy story: Agreed.

Anyway, no worries, mate. Enjoy your gear down under and a Fosters.
It's been a while (21 years) since I visited - and did not fall off the planet ;-) as a grocery store sales lady in Alice Springs pointed out when I bought post cards to send home to Germany. I"ll never forget that joke, too funny!
Cheers,
Ralf
