I am a huge fan of small snapshot cameras. I started with the power shot elph cameras. And have been very very happy. I broke my 2 canon powers shot cameras and sent them in for repair. So went to the local big store to buy a camera. Of course i went in to buy a canon. They had 20mp camera and wifi now. Wow... I was happy said I will take it. After searching and searching he said oh I am all out. Same story for the next 3 I had chosen. I saw this one was 20 mp and a little cheaper. I was out of time and figured this camera was the same in its class. Boy was I wrong. This camera might not represent nikons line of cameras all around but this thing can't even take a decent shot. And it hunts and hunts for focus even in sunlight. While my canon was instant, which I took for granted. So now I am overseas with crap portable camera. I really have no idea how they can sell this compared to their competitors. It is a epic fail. maybe this was the wrong product to try and use Nikon but it really has put me off. i keep thinking I need to give it a chance that it is me, or something. No it is just that bad. About 1 snap per 3 seconds. That is the best I can get.

That is a very very low class camera, with a 20mp 1/2.3 CCD sensor, where canon use a 12mp 1/2.3 BSI-CMOS sensor in the high end ELPH, its chalk and cheese, no way you can compare these.

I don't know what Nikon has been thinking regarding P&S's lately, but they sure have been going down hill for years. I recently was looking for one as an upgrade to my Canon G12 and looked at the Nikon 9700, here are a few pictures taken from it:

http://www.photographyblog.com/previews/nikon_coolpix_s9700_photos/ Personally, I would not be able to handle the noise at even base ISO. Take a look at the squirrel...

and that is only at ISO 360. Why would Nikon (or any other company) put out such CRAP! I hope Nikon has someone who monitors forums and reads what people think about their products. I sure hope the rumor of the P8000 is true and they don't screw that up too bad.

I have to disagree with you on your review. I had my wife pick up this camera for me in the USA. After she returned to Brazil with the 3600 model, I took a few pics of my kids outside at night as well as a few beautiful sunrise shots then uploaded to my computer and wallah!
Worse than a shooting with cow dung smeared over the lens or maybe equivalent to it.

I shoot with a Canon EOS Mark 3 1ds and a 40d as a backup. I bought this one because my other canon point and shoot got a tiny bit of water on the LCD display and quit working. It was a great point and shoo also and with a 3MP image, it was crystal clear and zero pixelization when zoom way in.
Anyway, I feel I was robbed blind after seeing nothing buy pixelization using ISO 100 and a 20mp size image? ZERO detail can be seen in any photo. ZERO I say and for a 20MP cam, I don't know what the eff they are trying to market because this is no better than a 1/2mp camera, shooting at ISO 3200, IF THAT!
Unbelievably bad results. Just incredibly bad. I want my 90 bucks back from the thieves that are selling that pos. I wanted my wife to buy the CMOS sensor cam but the store didn't have it so this CCD January 2014 fake camera model was the best she could come up with. How can NIKON have the guts to sell this toy camera? Zero Quality control checking out the 20MP images at low ISO.
Focus, don't even ask me about. Doesn't focus and can't lock in until the shot is already passed! Just keeps hunting over and over.

NIKON, The only positive with this camera is the sleek design. It needs that to fool the consumers into buying it. My wife knows just a little about photography and she is so depressed by the quality of the images coming out of this imposter of a point and shoot camera. Can you tell I am teed off?

I am only 5000 miles away from taking the camera back for a refund and the plane ticket is 10x the cost of that camera. Oh well. Please remove this camera from the retail shelves.

I get excellent results even with my $85 L22. Perhaps you should check your settings.

now do us all a favor skippy...go out and buy the very same camera and take the very same shots and then come back and post the photos here. Your posting photos from from the year 2010 using an L22 is bizarre to say the least. You obviously are mistaken if you think you can compare those cameras to the new 2014 model released by Nikon. My results VALIDATE the original posters claims and I am a pro photographer with professional training and have pretty nice equipment. I've been shooting for the past 45 Years, with 35mm film as well as multiple digital formats.

I wasn't able to critique the images you uploaded because when I downed them, they were basically thumbnails and couldn't make out any detail. Now if you want to critique a camera, I suggest you go out and buy it before you get involved with this discussion. Please don't take this personally, just know that if you want to discuss something and you use other gear, it is like comparing apples to watermelons. Nikon BLEW it with this camera.
