I posted a quick mini-review of the GH-3 adapter and hood for my GR friends on Instagram that haven't seen or used the adapter. I thought this might be of interest to a few new GR users here as well.

Cheers,

Ned

(Note: Photo of my GR setup was shot with my GRD IV which I still use for its wonderful close-up capabilities)

Ned I asked this question a hundred times, no response: with GR and an OVF (mine is a Voigtländer 28mm metal) what is the approximate percentage of the Frameline Brightline which is shadowed by the GH3? Obrigado.

JLS,

Here you go...a photo of the setup as I have the exact same view finder. The hood clips an area at the bottom of the view finder that is the same dimension as distance from the frame line to the dashed parallax lines at the top. So, in reality, a pretty small area is blocked.

Hope this helps, cheers!

Merci Ned!

Exactly the answer I was hoping :-)

Now I can watch more closely at the GR.

Like every oldtimer, an OVF is for me an hard to avoid selection factor.

Hello

I do not have the voiglander finder that you mention but I have THREE other finders for my GR

the GV2 ( the smallest one that has only 28mm framelines) blocks a larger part of the bottom frame than the other two

I also have the voigtlander 28/35mm mini finder ( now discontinued . can only be bought used) is a GREAT finder to have if you use the 35mm crop function of the GR

and the Gv1 is the one that has crop lines for 21mm and 28mm lines which is also great if you use the 21mm converter . This blocks the least amount of space with the hood

Not sure how it compares with your round 28mm finder though

In my experience the last two blocks a negligeable portion of the bottom frame and are for me preferrable because they offer ONE more focal length which you can use on your GR in addition to the native 28mm FOV ( either by the crop function or by the use of the gw3 converter)

Hope this sheds some additional light on the info you already got

Harold

Harold, I think about another possibility which would be to find a 49mm vented lens hood fitted to the GH-3 adapter and which does not vignette with the GR's "28mm". This seems a rare beast!
