nice! it'd be cool if you took some images of the same subject at the base ISO's and equivalent ISO's to (maybe 1600) compare what a difference 14 years makes.

The cost of a memory card back then to give you maybe 128k was more than the cost of some cameras now.

My first digital camera was a Mavica like the one below. I bet I still have it somewhere. Gotta say, the floppy disk was great and all, but I prefer the RX1. Ken Rockwell might disagree.

My 2001 DSC-S85, 13 years old, looks like yours, it works great, always has

http://www.dpreview.com/products/sony/compacts/sony_dscs85

big 1/1.8" 4mp sensor, . Bright f2.0 to 2.5 lens at 34mm to 102mm, uncompressed TIFF option

Highlights, some of which are missing on the new RX series.

Threads on body, with extension collar, to get past end of lens when extended. This gave a professional option for filters, conversion lenses, all with the weight transferred to the camera body. Solid attachment, dust proof and moisture resistant.

Huge Battery (R1, 4 years later used the same one)

Shoe/Jack for Big External Flash (R1 used the same one)

Combo of Optional Viewfinder and Screen. I would take a smaller screen to get an EVF on RX series.

Ability to turn screen off, use in the dark in a public place without flashlight effect.
