I can't find 1D (in Thailand)

I live in Thailand and about to buy 1D. I called every camera store including Canon Thailand and they said they won't import 1D anymore because in few months 1Ds will replace it. I though that 1Ds won't replace 1D because it design for studio not sport or action photography. Anyway my local camera shop also offer me Contax N Digital for 200,000 Baht (US$4700). I tried it but it gives me weird result (I don't like it much). What can I do, I have to use the camera early next month.

It gonna cost me at least around at least 20,000-30,000 baht for plane ticket or maybe I have to stay over night there. I think it cost too much. Is there any other solutions?

I dont have the latest price, but probably around USD4600. AGAIN i need to double check.

I know for sure there are cheaper places, but I buy at one of the largerst camera stores in HK, so no worries about parallel imports etc. peace of mind shopping in HK is RARE!

Declare a box of cigars and some Wine. They'll ask for about $20 US for a bribe and you'll be waved through......

Typically they would never look at camera gear, as long as it's not in new boxes. Put the new boxes in adifferent bag, carry the Camera over your shoulder.

Aussie will give you more trouble than Thailand ever will....

Jump on a plane and come to Hong Kong. I don't know if you have them, but you should be able to cash in a few frequent flyer points for the trip and you shouldn't need to be here overnight.

If you do decide to come to HK, drop me an email and I can meet you

and take you to a couple of places that have 1D's in stock. All it will cost you is a beer!

If you will come to Thailand and carry 1D with you on this december, great. I'll buy it from you. But I think you shouldn't declare anything. Just put 1D in the suitcase and walk in. No one will bother you because you're foreigner and they want you to come back again.

Rob, I bought it from Man Shing in Mong Kok. I buy most of my stuff there, so they recognize me... you can bargain a LITTLE, but not much. They are the largest camera retailer so they have 'volume' and are quite reputatable.
