Hi guys,

Quick question, a colleague of mine is looking to sell his X100 - not S - just wondering, if the price is right, would it still be a good camera to purchase, or would I be better off buying something newer.

ps. what would be a good price for an X100 today?

Cheers,

X100 for what it is, is worth the money. The amount of money is determined by, let's say between ebay and over counter second hand unit prices. I bought mine ,X100 black LE as new, some 8 months ago for litle under 700€.

I was very happy for the price, and the camera it is the same, that got praises and glory some years ago. And with the latest firmware it is even better than the one that got the paraises and glory.

So, I would buy it again with the same money.

Hey Forbaz,

Thanks for checking the blog haha. Excellent X100 set on FLickr. it's definitely given me something to think about.

I paid $650 for an almost mint X100 with the Fuji leather case. I went with Amazon because using their card I have 12 months interest free financing. While the X100S is better, right now its not $400-500 better to me.

I've had the X100 for over 2 years now and would not give it up. It is a joy to use and has really helped to elevate my photographic skills. It takes excellent pictures. I really have no idea what a fair price would be, really depends on the condition of the camera.

Bought mine last november at €699 brand new serial number 24.

This camera is big fun. With the new FW the camera is perfectly usable.

The price depends in what part of the world you live in, unfortunately I live in an expensive part of the world.

SN's 12 and 13 had SAB (sticky aperture blade) issues, not all of them but the bulk with SAB were those numbers. So I would check what SN this camera has and ask if it was serviced to deal with this issue. SN's 21 and up seem to be free of SAB.

Look at the output on Flickr, the camera can take the most satisfying shots be they landscape, documentary, portrait etc;

Most users will tell you that the fixed lens has liberated them from fussing about with a system camera and a bag full of focal length choices.

I bought the Black X100 LE for £549.00 in October 2012 and would buy it again for the same price.

yes worth in very good condition at 500$

Be sure to get original purchase proof / invoice avoid grey market this for the possibility of SAB issue which is normally covered by a life time guarantee (at least in Europe ...) since it's was acknowledged by Fuji to be a build default from origin.

The x100s in terms of IQ is only marginally better (1 stop advantage)

I keep mine along with the XP1 system... :-)

I bought a used X100 about six months ago and it hasn't left my side since. I've been wanting to get into photography properly for ages but the thought of lugging around a DSLR put me off. The X100 seemed perfect for me after reading every review I could lay my hands on. You can still make great pictures with it. Just because it's a few years old doesn't mean that the image quality has gotten worse ;)

I'm currently saving for a used XE1 body to add to my X family so that I can shoot with some legacy lenses. Can't wait until March when I should have enough cash for one.

Here are a few shots with my X100. I think the IQ is still good enough..

Perhaps an over simplification but for $500 to $600, the camera is a steal. As long as you are satisfied with a fixed lens and don't require faster AF. The firmware updates are essential. They make a very big difference both in terms of usability and AF speed and effectiveness in low light.

The X100 was a transformative camera for me. I sold a very new D800 as a result of it and have now joined the Fuji camp with an XE1. However, the X100 continues to be my daily carry with the XE1 devoted to night shooting and travel. I shoot jpeg only with it. Get the metering right and they're gorgeous.

I purchased a used x100 at the end of 2012 for $800 including hood, extra battery and all boxes. I've been using it heavily since. (Review on my blog.)

It puts out beautiful files and the lens is exceptionally well matched to the sensor. I have hung large prints from the x100 with prints out of 24mp FF and it holds up just fine. In comparing the x100 to my X-Pro1, I actually think the x100's sensor looks better with some subjects than the x-trans sensor.

After less than a year in my use, I did need to have the lens repaired for the SAB issue. This cost $175, but the Fuji repair was quick and painless. My camera's serial # is fairly late. Things do break, and I wasn't particularly surprised or upset.

If I were looking for an x100 now, I wouldn't want to spend more than $600 on the camera. Though I'd be tempted by the "s", I don't think it would offer any meaningful improvement for my photography. It would have a warranty, though.

Definitely be careful of the SAB issue. I bought mine used for £375 off of eBay and had to have it repaired for SAB after the Firmware 2.00 update. It was a painoess experience but I could have done without the £80 cost.
