I've been using the macro elmar, and find it good but a tad soft, and am wondering if the 90mm APO would be substantially better on the A7r. Anyone using it on the A7r?

How does it do on the A7r? Any samples to share?

I have samples, but non from A7r at the moment, just from my NEX-7, sharp enough?

My lenses:

Yes, I've used the both 90's on Nex 7 in the past, and both were terrific. Your shot is lovely, especially the color rendition in the background. Sharpness looks fine.

But I'm really curious how it does on the FF A7r, especially compared to the macro elmar.

I have been busy trying out my RF UWA on my A7r, and have a 120% confidence with my Big-Head-9. Now need to find a duck :-) , but none of them in the park in the last few days; freezing cold. Will try again today.

Here's a few with an R mount 90 on my a7

Took a few pictures with my A7r + Leica M 90-APO today. It was cold, about -5C. My A7r (I think it's the battery) died on me several times. I have to confess I am NOT an experienced 90 street shooting, prefer 35. My 90APO is more for portraiture.

Here are a few pictures, all at f/2.

Thanks, Steven. I'm going to go with the 90-APO.

The proof is in the pudding we know but on the stats alone that APO should play very well with the FF sensor you have in mind. I too have toyed with picking up the 90 for mine but it just seem so close in FL to the 75 cron I use occasionally. I am really enjoying the Sony with my wides - converted to monochromes and all is forgiven.

Perhaps you should refrain from posting images when you get yours, for my sanity, and financial health.

Yes, I would not have both in my bag, too close. I'm hoping to use the FE 24-70mm for that FL, and then have the 90 and 135 for tele. That will all fit nicely in my fav bag, and be great while traveling or hiking. I'll get the FE 70-200mm when it becomes available, but I won't always have it with me.

I promise to pan it mightily, and complain, complain, complain. No worries....;-)

The 90AA is the best working of all my M lenses on A7R (strictly, the only one...).

Outstanding detail and microcontrast, sharp as on my Monochrom. Some shots show a little bit CA... No M lens is designed for the A7R, but after i realized what that means, I was a bit disappointed. Shooting mostly in B&W, I can and will wait for really outstanding FE lenses.

For color work, the FE 24-70 (March), 90AA, and my Elmar 135 will be in my bag for travel.

Why do you call it "90AA"?
Outstanding detail and microcontrast, sharp as on my Monochrom. Some shots show a little bit CA... No M lens is designed for the A7R, but after i realized what that means, I was a bit disappointed.
Was it only the CA that disappointed you? That's easily fixed in ACR.

Love the 1st one. What great light you had, with shadows fore and aft. Just lovely.

Love the next two as well. You do right by this lens.

90 Apo Aspheric. Common abbreviation in German forums

Yes, this is my only issue with this lens. I had to search my files for a while to find an example (the most extreme I had so far):

Thanks :-) Here is an original size crop, to Show the Performance of this lens. With the right lighting conditions it has 3D look

Thanks, Carsten. Very interesting. I like the "90AA" handle. That lens sure produces terrific IQ! (CA easily corrected, right?)

90AA is a common abbreviation, CA is a simple fix in Lightroom.

I have a few more shots on my NEX-7.

Thanks for posting here, Lightshow. I like the 3rd shot especially.

I've used both 90's (AA and Macro Elmar) on the Nex 7, and I thought they were pretty close in IQ. I'm just wondering if that's true on the A7r....
