Just receive my set

It arrives very well packed in a serious cardboard box with the set nested in a very dens foam so the first impression is very good

Mechanically they fit well. I always put on the chinese FX bayonet some silicone oil on the part that are far from electric pins using a q tip sample then carefully remove the excedeent in order the bayonet is free from any unwanted resistance

So both tubes fit well on the body and on 2 lenses tested60mm and 18-55mm

At the beginning there was a problem of correct connection betwwen the 2 tubes together but after practicing carefully several times now everything is ok I would say it's probably wise once the tubes are together to use the very light play in order to make sure that the male and female contacts are ... in contact! As far as I can see it's due to the contacts on the tube (not the pins) that are a bit missing relief so assembling the tubes should be done carefully

Once evrything is ok I got a max 3cm (using a ruler) filling the frame with the 60mm macro mode and 3.5mm for the 55mm zoom

For the 60mm you get a 23.6/30= 0.80 reproduction ratio instead of 0.5 and for the 55mm that was a champion of macro an interesting 23.6/35= 0.67 ratio

This is with the 18-55mm that I'm most interested when I want to carry the minimum of equipment

I'll be testing also the 55-200mm at 200mm to see how I can shorten the focus distance

So 3.5 stars on 5 !

Cheers

Bob

I just tested the set with the 200mm It does confirm that the contacts betwwen tubes might cause problem since my 55-200mm is a bit stiff to change focal length so it creates some slight movement on the play of the different bayonet that can cause transmission error

Playing with the play (!!!!) cures the problem not glorious at all but it works! There is definitly like for Fotga a margin of progression in the mechanical electrical quality

Ok when everything is ok it works perfectly with 26mm tube extension at 600mm allowing a shooting distance of 65cm instead of 1.3m A very interesting gain for insects

With the 200mm it's wise to first set the zoom at 200mm then fit the set on the lens then the lens on the body to avoid "playing with the play" of the different bayonets

Obviously one pin is a bit close to the outer part of contacts but a close examination of the tubes do not allow to detect any significant default

In conclusion you do get the service but at the cost of gentle handling and mounting and coping with some unwanted play in the final combo

Great! I've found using both Fotga tubes that the 16 must attach to the body, then the 10. The 10 then 16 does not work.

Still having a play with them now and again. Here's the Oly OM 50 wide open with both tubes -

Finally I decided to carefully but severely clean contacts with Q tips devices

Found black thin dry layer of either black paint or outer palstic mount residual dust. The cleaning process has removed the "false contact" and now everything works perfect

Final mark 4.5/5 instead of 3.5 highly recommended

Mesued with precision 45cm instead of 1m very interesting indeed

But the transformation of the OIS 18-55mm in a good semi macro at 55mm is even more interesting to trekk light!!

I must have a play with mine, thanks for the idea :)

Edit: oh yes, that works rather well!

Problems with all combinations of this. 10 alone, 16 alone, 10+16, 16+10, I can get it to work but pressure/movement on the lens creates throws the camera into a seizure and it flashes on and off. Returning for a refund.

I have this pair of extension tubes and the worked great on my XT-1 35mm lens Combo.

I have since bought an 18-135mm lens they are really tight and the lens does not seem to communicate with the camera.

Both lenses fit the camera very easily and the extensions fir the 35mm with a reassuring snick sound as it locks into place.

What could be the reason for it to be so tight?

Extension Tubes are BEST used on longer lenses to provide working distance between you and your subject.
Using the 18-55 forces you to be fractions of an inch from the subject, often causing lighting problems (you're in your own light) or starling the subject (insects, etc).
I only use Ext Tubes with my 55-200 or longer lenses.
The hilight and shadow tone controls keep me from needing to shoot RAW as well.
