Hi Guys,

After many thoughts what to think of the Canon 70D I got a chance on my last Safari holiday in Borneo to compare it with other cameras in similar conditions. We had people using the Mark II and III, Nikon and with far better glas like the 70-200mm on the Mark II but nothing came close to the 70D in the night conditions. No argument in normal daylight the FF were showing of but not that much better if at all.

I was long thinking if I shal keep it after the holiday and its a yes now. If you after a good travel combination and don't want to carry lots of glas the combination 70D & 135mm is hard to beat.

Please feel free to have a look through my flicker galerie

All basic PP shot in JPEG, I know there is some noise in the night shots but others got nothing at all :-)

As many are quickly finding out the new 70D with the 18-135 kit lens, can do many quality pictures. I find nothing to not like about this new package from Canon.

for sure it is acceptable weight combination were you only have to have a small back. If one is willing to carry batter glass with him of cause it always gets better :-) but when I think the hot humid condition no way I carry more than really is required. Different story if you earn you money with it than you have to but you also have to bring more time with you and private guide. Possibly a stative as well to be able to lower the ISO, handheld on a rush I was very very happy with the combination.

Cheers,

Siggi

Wow, a safari in Borneo, must be an incredible experience!

I don't have anything to compare mine to, but I've got the exact same kit and think it's great. I'm still a bit reluctant to trust its low light / high ISO capabilities but was able to take some really cool pics like the one below.

If you don't mind me asking, which lens(es) are you planning on getting next for the 70D? I've got the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM and the 50mm f/1.8 II which I think is an amazing value, and was considering the non-L 100mm macro next, but still not sure which "normal" 30mm and (affordable) tele (70-300mm USM IS maybe?) to get.

Cheers,

Deny

well I was thinking about the 70-200mm but after trying it on mine I was rather disapointed and may stick with the 135mm for now. For other photography I use mainly my Fuji X100 and when need arises I may buy another lens depending the cause of photography (like you said the 50mm 1.8)

Cheers,

Siggi
