while I see that metabones has a version III model of its e-mount adapter for canon lenses, I don't see a version for full-frame Nikon lenses to e-mount that maintains correct focal length, all electronic connections and lens capabilities. so, what is the best adapter for Nikon FF lenses to use on the E-mount A7?

or I could just get the metabones for canon and invest in a couple of canon lenses, or third party with canon mounts. are there ANY third party (sigma, etc) that make lenses in E-mount? I am specifically after UWA zoom, equivalent to the Nikon FF 18-35mm or canon FF 17-40mm. I do not currently have any lenses (nor the A7 yet) - I have been flip-flopping between the canon 6D, Nikon D610, used D800, used 5D mkiii, and now think the A7 may be a good choice - I will be doing documentary work where at least some degree of anonymity provided by a smaller camera is desirable. perhaps half the work will be stills, and half will be HD video clips, so video is quite important in the selection of the system.

lastly, where is the best place to purchase the A7? best buy has it for $1699 body only, same as B&H. I prob wont buy the kit lens unless someone can convince me it is sharp enough to use - a couple of reviews haven't been too impressed with it...

thanks for your help with this.

I have 3 adapters, Novoflex, Metabones without aperture ring and a Chinese ebay adapter.

The Novoflex is far superior and worked really well on the 14-24 Nikon whereas the other 2 showed bad effects in the sides of the images.

thanks greg - it looks like the novaflex unit does not support AF or exposure control from the camera? I think the meatbones v III adapter for canon lenses support all AF and other functions. perhaps there just is no similar adapter for Nikon lenses?

and btw, greg - I have a nice little celestron 90mm (FL=1250mm) spotting scope - what kind of adapter would I need to connect the A7 to it for some shots of the moon, etc? thanks.

I use the Novoflex adapter with all my Nikon lenses and am extremely pleased with it. While it has the manual aperture control ring, all my lenses are early 2000 decade vintage Nikon D series with manual aperture rings. I shoot mostly in aperture priority mode, sometimes full manual (with Auto ISO, my favorite uplevel feature from the NEX-7)

I don't know of an electronic adapter for Nikon to E-mount.

I tested a cheap Promaster adapter ($80) and Novoflex on the nikon 70-200mm. As for shutter vibration the Novoflex was slightly better. Here is the test, the website has a bigger version available: http://beforethecoffee.com/sony-a7r-vibration-comparison-with-nikon-d3-and-sony-nex-7/

Also Astrophotographer 10: What is your technique for f-stop determination for the G lens? Lately I've been starting at 2.8 and watching the exposure for 1 stop changes. Do you have Nikon 14-24mm with Novoflex on A7R posted anywhere? Thank you.

There is currently no Nikon Auto Adapter, I'm not sure if there ever will be, but it would be nice. I currently use several manual Nikon AI and pre-AI lenses 24mm-300mm and I pleased with the results.

Can you please assit I have just purchased a Sony Alpha 7r am using a Novoflex adapter with my Nikon lens and am having focising problems.

I use the facility that puts colour in the out of focus areas but it looks to me that they are in focus and the spot that I have focused on is out of focus, infact it is.

Can anyone suggest a solution.

It is the same on both D and G lens.

If you mean focus peaking, this gives coloured outlines on the IN FOCUS edges.

The best setting, in my experience, is Low sensitivity with yellow as the colour. It works extremely well with my Nikon AI lenses.
