I posted a similar thread in the m43 forum, but saw that these two pics between x100s vs A7 are more similar, same relative focal length, both shot wide open, both focus are on the car grill.

Keep in mind that they were not shot at the same time and both were in P mode so other variables such shutter speed, viewpoint, LED ambient light, and ISO are different

This is only for general real world comparison only please! If you need studio tests check out formal reviews.

Love the A7 overall, but x100s is hard to beat for convenience and image quality when compared to any other cameras of similar size.

very "unscientific" indeed...

The advantage of a FF sensor is to be found in landcsape architecture wildlife where each small detail will lead to a more crisp picture also allows more cropping (wildlife)

Since both are excellent anyway you do need scientific ways of comparisons

Cheers

both are auto, keep in mind the LED on the stage gradually change colour so it's not the same on both pictures.

What metering mode were the cameras in

perhaps real world feel of a picture produced straight from the cameras won't hurt once in a while?

I have many friends who also fails to understand why some of us compare every pixels on dpreview studio shots, we let those people do what they like, don't we? ;)

It boggles my mind thinking what one could hope to learn from this "comparison".

Well I found the comparison interesting. For most shots the IQ difference between cameras is not so great as some believe.

Happy New year ! Thought that I would get that in before the Xmas spirit wears off entirely. :-)

The interesting thing is that there is more DR in the A7 shot in the left headlight. Obviously the lighting at the time were different and the metering of the two cameras were different.

Yes I noticed this as well on x100s but somehow mainly when shot wide open at f2, stopping down even a little and things improve considerably

I think that might be more down to the exposure than any DR advantage. The A7 shot is clearly darker overall.

My x100s is on order and I'm looking forward to its arrival. Next to my full frame d610 I would probably see little difference out of camera but a correctly exposes landscape shot could extract more shadow detail especially in low light. i think that is where a decent FF camera can really shine, with landscape raw shots.

I don't take many landscapes if any so I'm not expecting much difference and I actually prefer sharper and even blown shadows as it gives me gritty images of the street. FF a certain advantage in certain conditions, mainly flat low contrast high detail shots similar to a typical requirement for landscapes.
