Hi There

My name is Jim and I have a wee Problem with the back Control Wheel on the Panasonic Lumix Fz200 I CANNOT Change from the Shutter to Focus

I am trying to get away from the Auto Mode and using the P.A.S.and M. modes and I have got a Hic-cup for I Cannot Depress the Control Wheel to go from SS to F or Vice Versa

The Control Wheel rotates Fine but when I press the control wheel In to change to engage either Shutter or Focus Nothing happens

Would like some advice please on how why the Control Wheel is not functioning Properly

thankyou

take care

In A mode the thumb wheel, when pressed, switches between f stop and compensation. When S mode it switches between shutter speed and f stop. The only time the wheel includes focus is when in mManual mode.TWhen in A or S mode, you focus be pressing the shutter button or using the extra button on the lens barrel/LHS of the lens.

Hi Jim, The wheel won't include focus unless you have the side switch set to MF. If your side switch is already set to MF, then there is something wrong with the camera and you should return it under warranty.

I know exactly what you're talking about. My FZ200 started doing the same thing. It used to be that in A mode, I could push the rear dial and be able to change the exposure compensation, but for some unknown reason, I can't do it anymore. I have the same problem in the S mode, too. Now, if I want to change the exposure compensation, I have to go through the menu. I'm able to do it relatively fast, but it's definitely a pain in the rear compared to the way I used to be able to do it.

I'm a newspaper photographer and use the camera all the time and can't really go without it if I send it in for repairs. I'm hoping I'll be able to last through the frustration until the FZ250 (or whatever) comes out.

I've had several of the Panasonic FZ's and this is the first time I've had a problem with any of them.

Sorry you've got the problem, but it's consoling to know I'm not the only one.

Same here. Mine is still under warranty, and I'm going to send it in for repair. I've heard that Panasonic repair is very slow, so I'll have to use my other system for some time while it's in the shop!

The rear wheel seems to be a bit of a problem. I have heard several reports form FZ200 owners who have had similar problems in that their rear wheel has stopped giving access to settings. Something Panasonic needs to look at, as it keeps popping up as an issue.

Hi Rodger

So sorry I have not got the hang of the P.A.S.and M Modes but I am getting there (I hope)

I have the side switch on the MF setting

On the S. Mode I can rotate the Wheel and the SS.and F Symbols are showing

BUT when I depress the Wheel to move from the highlighted SS. Symbol to the Not Highlighted F Symbol, The Wheel depresses a little BUT DOES NOT CHANGE or Highlight the F. Symbol

Just hope i am not Confusing you and explaining this correctly

Thanks for taking time to write back

Take care

Jim
Hi Jim,

No worries. You can't change the F number in S priority, just the shutter speed, the camera will determine the F number. In A priority, you can change the F number but not the shutter speed, once again, according to the F number you select, the camera will set the SS. If you want to use the wheel to select both SS and F number then you need to select M mode. The pressing of the wheel will allow you to toggle between those two settings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Rodger I will go and try that moving the control Dial to the M mode will let you know how I get on

Just want to make sure I understand the question...

You put the camera in A mode or S mode

You look at the display and see something highlighted in yellow on the bottom line of the display

You push the dial in towards the front of the camera - and the yellow highlight never moves.

Is that correct?

on A Mode the F is Highlighted and cannot Highlight the SS setting

On the S Mode the SS is Highlighted and cannot Highlight the F setting

This happens on M Mode I get a Rectangle M F area !!! which has a Yellow line from 3.3 to infinity and can be moved when I rotated the

Back control wheel NOTHING happens when I PRESS or PUSH the the wheel in towards the Front of the Camera

Is that correct?

Hi Sherm

Hope I have explained this OK now, I believe the Yellow line in the rectangle section is something to do the HYPER-FOCCUL DISTANCE which I am trying to get my head around

Ever wished you would have started this hobby when you had a chance in my case 40 plus years ago Still it's never to Late to learn I hope

Thanks for getting in touch, Enjoy ALL the holiday periodand I wish you well for everything you do in 2014

Let's try something for a second just to be sure...

On the lens barrel is a slider AF/AF(flower)/MF. Turn that to AF.

Set the camera dial to A

You should see the aperture (fstop) highlighted in yellow. Is that the case?

If you tap the wheel in toward the front of the camera, the yellow highlight should move to the -3....0....+3 object (yes? no?)

If you tap in again, the highlight should return to the aperture.

Does that happen?

Sherm

Jim,

Before you send the camera back for repair let Sherm guide you through a diagnostic process and follow his instructions to the letter. He does know what he is talking about and it is easy to get confused by using words wrongly or interpreting icons wrongly.

e.g. on the FZ200 screen the word "highlighted" strictly means that an icon has changed from white to yellow.

Just trying to help and save you from a lengthy/costly repair period only to be told there that the camera is functioning OK.

Cheers

Eric
