i just took my new canon 60d on it's first shoot and thought i'd share a few images ....feel free to comment /critique

pose/compostiion is good. eyes are bit dark and the hair is too. the earing is the brightest thing in the image and draws my attention away from her face.

odd pose IMO. way too dark, especially the eyes. My attention goes to her breastbone and then belly (arm is a leading line to her crotch). Face gets lost as it's too dark.

this is much better - my attention is on her face (not a great expression IMO). A bit more lightin the eyes would be better. Her arm up helps pull attention to her face, her hair has detail, BG isn't distracting. Might crop a tad more on the bottom to remove skin.

My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no 'special' value

i agree with you also ... and thats why i asked for critiques.... because sometimes we get cought up in our own work and dont realive the small things that could make our images look better ... thanks

For me, #3 is far better. Much better lighting and I like her pose and expression better. #2 would be better in color I think, but there are two things I would change to make an improvement. 1st--back up and get at least 3/4 length; as noted, in this shot attention gets pulled away from her face by her right hand. Give her some more head room too. 2nd, move the right hand more to her hip and have her tug there. With the added length of a 3/4 shot, then you end up with a sexy and very typical glam pose. But it should be in color, too. #1 is generally nice, but I think far too dark.

For me #3 is the weakest because of the direct light, harsh shadows, dark eyes and squinting. The focal length and camera angle are also weak. Look for open shade when taking outdoor portraits and avoid direct sunlight unless you're filling with flash or reflector - and even then avoid direct sunlight ;-) I would also never shoot a headshot at less than 50mm - and much better at 85mm to 135mm.

That makes sense also that will probably be my next investment a 85mm f1.4 and a reflector. .. thanks

The advice and tips I receive on his is greatly appreciated because not many of my associates enjoy or even care for photography ... unless it's done with a cell phone so thanks .....FREEDUM

I like your color photos a lot. There is some green cast on them, not sure you done it intentionally, but I like it a lot.

IMHO sepia is too much... don't want you criticize you a lot, but here I go so you make better work: You need to decide about her pose - it either sexy detail on her breasts, either sexy detail on her other hand suggesting striping her jeans. This way it is kind of vulgar and distracting, I don't know where to look. It is same mistake women do when they put both mini-skirt and decolletage. Sorry if I am too harsh.

The first shot is the best although a little duo and lacking sparkle. The neck line is bad as well, retouch that out. The other two pics are throwaways.
