Hello,

I am fairly new on this forum and into photography. I've been experimenting a bit with portraiture. This is a picture from my little girl.

This is taken with a Sony A57 and a pentacon 135mm f2.8 (m42)

This has been shot at full open aparture...

Thanks

Fine shot and a good start. Pluses and minuses to the crop/framing but really boils down to per pref. You could pick a better background though. Looks good out of focus but the general color is not really complimentary, IMO, and the "White Pole" running behind her is distracting and tells no story. Good luck...and I like the expression you captured...Interesting.

Great photo. Fab expression.

As a tip for getting good expressions, I find kids tend to come up with them as they get bored waiting for you, especially if they have been instructed to look away at some far off object.

To put the opposing view to the previous poster, I wouldn't worry too much about background objects unless the colour doesn't work or the object is a straightforward geometric shape, like a TV or an actual straight line, which this isn't. Maybe it'll bug a photog or two out there, but for me the blur is doing more than enough to deal with it. I happen to also think it's better than having a blankly blurred background. All my super-bokeh portraits do better for having some kind of texture in the background blur.

The natural lighting is really nice. You nailed the focus and with enough DOF to capture both eyes sharply. As far as the background, I don't find it a distraction, nor does it add anything. I lean toward the a combination of the two comments. If there had been something vaguely recognizable, in the background, it could have added a story to the picture...a location...maybe a park. That can make a photo more interesting than just a face against a blank background.

I have no troubles with the background. I'm not quite sure about the expression, but you know her better than we do, so if it's OK with you, I have nothing to add.

You nailed the focus admirably, BTW.

I like that relaxed and natural look. Background is ok, not distracting for my taste. The om´nay issue i have is the crop. Its a bit tight and you cut her he'd a bit :)

Very good photo, do not worry about the crop, as it is it is your decision and your decision is the best.

excellent, love the expression, narrow DOF and colors...

Hello All,

I would like to thank everyone fore the supportive critisism. Of course i understand that photography is very subjective. Everyone prefers other things.

As said by a poster, kids get easily bored. This explains the more neutral expression. (5 seconds longer and she would start complaining :) )

Kind regards,

Sonny
