I bought a D600 earlier this month, but as our daughter was unwell for a week, testing my new camera was not something I had in mind. She has recovered and we are so happy to see her back to her own self.

Today, while having her lunch she asked me - "Daddy can you take a photo of mine? See, I am eating on my own..." I quickly grabbed my D600 and took this shot.

I wasn't really looking into focus and composition as such since I just wanted to capture a moment that put a big smile on our face as parents. This will remain a very special photo for me.

Added a vignette filter on Color Efex pro.

Adorable girl and great moment.

But I do think your exposure is a bit hot.

Cheers,

Robert

Awesome shot. Something to keep forever.

Yes, wonderful photo, great moment and yes, THAT is what it is all about.

These special moments.

Wonderful and thanks for sharing.

To me this is any meal, it may be a special moment to you at this time but will it really be a special moment in 10 years to you? Probably not. I was expecting to see a rather different photo than a child with a spoon with the title you made.

Hmm. Different strokes for different folks, I understand where the Op is coming from.

And I doubt very much that he will ever forget it. One look at that image and he will remember anyway....

That is what the images are for.

It's what photography is all about mate.
Those special moments that we will always remember when we see photos like this.

Glad to see your young one is well and happy

The high key effect works it's magic for me! I think that part of the magic moment is the excitement of seeing images come off of that D600 sensor....:)

Really nice.. thanks for sharing. :)

Why won't it be a special moment in 10 years? That makes no sense. I have photos of my 9 year old doing various things for the first time and I recall all of them easily. Will I forget them and the photographed moments at the 10 year mark? I better label them!

The context for a photo need not be clear to everyone right away. I could easily say that there's this photo of some inept soldiers struggling to erect an American flag. Why does it take 5 guys to put up a flag? Maybe they're kidding around. Two would have done it more easily!

Without external context you might think these things about the famous pic at Iwo Jima. That context has broad appeal and drama, but you NEED to be told for the full effect.

Just 5 guys pushing up a flag, but add the context and it's special. Just a girl with a spoon, but add the context and it's also special. MANY good photos require external context or their almost nothing.

The pic of the girl is nice! Reel in the exposure in post and it will be better.

Thanks to most of you who understood the story behind the picture and why some pictures mean a lot to the person taking it even though the picture may look ordinary and not that exciting to others.

I agree that the exposure is bit hot as I grabbed it and shot it not to miss the moment. However, after looking at it I prefer the high key look.

I am sure I'll remember this shot and the context all my life since she is our child and we know what we have been through in the last few days.

I hardly remember special things I do 10 years later! Time moves on and so do most of our memories.

Unless you have memory problems (in which case apologies for my gaucheness), I'd say that the things weren't all that 'special' if you don't remember them 10 years later.

I'm not a parent, but I do have some inkling of how special it is to see a sick child restored to health.

That is the what art is all about........evoking emotions!!! I wish more of my images would do that, as opposed to just being pretty or technically good.

I like the high key look and the reverse vignette, BTW.
