My MZ-3 suddenly refuse to fire its shutter anymore. A high pitched sound whines for about 1 second and then nothing happens. Tried swapping batteries, w/ or w/o grip, different lenses, leaving the camera alone for a week etc but nothing seems to fix it.

The counter stopped at 22, and here are some of the (not to personal) pictures from the last roll, in reverse order:

Nice pics though. My mz-7 did that the first time I fired the shutter. Something with plastic cog wheels getting brittle.

Nice to see some film still being shot...........

Saw on the pro forum the other day and someone asked wether you can still make money shooting film professionally. Well, what a bun fight....even the moderator got stuck in and became rather un-moderator ish :-O

I just purchased a MZ-60 on ebay the other day, looks possibly like an ex estate purchase and still has the cardboard strip inside to tell you how to load film !! possibly unused ??

Looking forward to pushing through a few rolls, still something I love about it and maybe get a fully manual camera to, nice to feel like getting back to basics and that film look.

Someone here in Aussie selling a MZ-S on ebay too, very tempted, but didn't pull the trigger just yet ;-)

Thank you :)

Yes, I heard about this problem a couple of times, seems to be common to all of them. Sad, as i really like the camera.

you will keep the camera, anyway ?
In the process of deciding that I guess ;)
I have to take it to a repair center and see if they can fix it. The actual Pentax Japan repair center is not to far from where I live so I should check with them too.

Yes, shooting film is a great feeling. I have 4 film cameras that I load with film and then take a couple of pics now and then. One film usually last me 6 to 12 months, and when I finally get it developed it's sort of a "Oh yeah, I did/saw that thing a year ago, heh"-moment ;)

Get some film for that MZ-60 and shoot away! For me there is a feeling there that is missed on digital (but digital is much better for most conditions though).

One day, I will get one of those expensive MZ-S cameras, one day, hehe.

Sorry to hear that but check Ebay or get it fixed?

Nice photos btw

Sorry to hear about your cherished camera , and nice pictures .

However , with used film cameras being so cheap to buy nowadays , you can just buy another for less than the cost of getting your existing one repaired .

Even the MZ-S and the LX can now be found for surprisingly little , and the MZ-S is a huge step up in build quality from the MZ 3 , so well worth going for ; it is as solidly built out of real metal as any of the old manual bodies and as much of a pleasure to handle as an MX , LX or whatever , with all the convenience of AF , the option of both PTTL and standard TTL flash plus a big , bright viewfinder ( the AF on the MZ-S , incidentally , is SO much better than that on any of the DSLR's being fast , accurate and locking on in low light in a way that belies all the complaints we read about Pentax AF that I'm sure the problem is the modern cameras being APSC more than anything else , the technology works fine in FF ) - so go for it . The shutter and winder makes a lovely noise too .

It is also well worth getting the optional battery grip , not just for the ability to run the camera on AA batteries , but also because the grip is an ergonomic delight with controls so well placed for using the camera in portrait aspect .

I love my MZ-S , and delight in using it , although I paid a lot for mine when they still commanded high prices , I have no regrets and still use it a few times a year along with my LX which is equally a delight to use . The other film camera which still gets semi-regular use is my little Rollei 35S , which lives in the glovebox of my car and is always handy , even if I have no other camera equipment around - besides , I love its 'upside down' quirkiness , with film that runs the 'wrong way' across the camera , winder on the left , and flash shoe on the bottom :)

Sadly , I only shoot a few rolls of film a year now , and also can take months to finish one - maybe that is something I will have to address .

Still watching for an Epson F-3200 scanner like the one we have at work ...
