Which camera can name its photos before or after taking them?

Hi Guys,

I want a camera which I can name photos with. For example, say I want to take pictures of Joe. I can type in the camera "Joe" and the camera will start sequencing names for pictures I take afterwards.

So I go to take pics of Joe, and I take 5, which come out to be:

Joe-1.jpg
Joe-2.jpg
etc...

What brand, what model, etc?? Also, a plus would be if the images can be transferred to my PC wirelessly(wifi), but I think a wifi card can do that.

Thanks,

Dave

The Canon 7D can with the latest firmware, as can the 1D. This does, of course, take longer than waiting until you have the files on a proper workstation that can do a batch-rename operation with multiple string variables. The ability to use special prefixes on the camera is intended for use when "Joe" is the photographer, and you need to be able to figure out which photo came from "Joe" in a batch of thousands of files from different photographers. A reference image or a voice annotation should be used to identify the subject of the photo.

Thanks for the reply AR.

The problem is that I want to set the naming scheme first, and then take photos which will be named according to the specified scheme. I don't want to batch rename because, say I have 1000 pictures, and every 5 are a different name, I can't do a batch rename. Hope you see what I'm trying to accomplish!

Thanks,

Dave

Changing the file prefix every five frames will not be convenient, and you will probably make many mistakes. Changing the folder name, however, is convenient when using a camera that supports this feature. If a batch has multiple subjects, add all relevant keywords to the file name after processing.

You can separate different subjects into different folders. For example, the 1D will start with 100EOS1D. You can then create 101EOS1D, 102EOS1D, and so on. You can then flip back to 100EOS1D or any other previously-created folder. This keeps all of your work organized, and afterwards you can rename the folders and reorganize files as necessary.

The pentax k5 has facilities to customize folder names. Not sure it'd all Joe or if its limited to date format s. You can also set the artist name in the exif.
