Hi,

What is the differences between these two cameras?

Did the F20 come first and the F30 second as an improvement or is the reverse true?

Thank you and Regards, Ken.
Fuji's F30 press release was reported by DPReview on Feb. 14, 2006. Five months later the F20 was announced.
Fujifilm Finepix F20, up to ISO 2000
Jul 13, 2006 at 06:24:20 GMT

Fujifilm has today announced its 'little brother' to the popular and impressive FinePix F30 Zoom. The new FinePix F20 carries the same 6.3 megapixel SuperCCD chip found in the F30 providing it with impressive an high sensitivity of up to ISO 2000 at full resolution. Design wise the F20 is clearly based around the F30's body with a few design tweaks. The only specification differences we could make out are that the F20 is slightly slimmer and lighter, has different long exposure times, a lower resolution LCD monitor and a different battery.
Please note updated spec change; the F20 does not have aperture and shutter priority modes.

Big brother’s little brother: FinePix F20 joins award-winning high sensitivity camera range from Fujifilm

Fujifilm today announced the launch of the FinePix F20, an affordable and slimline 6.3 megapixel camera that reflects the company’s commitment to producing a wide range of high-end, high sensitivity digital cameras that work in low light.

The FinePix F20 refines the body shape of the acclaimed FinePix F30. However its convenient, pocketable dimensions do not prevent it from featuring the same powerful sixth generation Super CCD HR sensor and Real Photo Processor II technology as its bigger brother.

Hi photoreddi,

Thank you for your quick and helpful response.

I recently purchased the F20 as a used camera in excellent condition for just $1, and was just wondering how it compares to my old F30.

I love the F30 and now I have a worthy companion to it.

Thanks again and regards, Ken.

You're welcome. You not only got a good deal on a very good camera, if you ever want to make a huge 100% or 200% profit, I'm sure that someone here would be willing to make you an offer. :)

The F20 was the budget version of the F30 aimed at point and shooters.

The F40fd aka F45fd had the best colours of the pre-EXR SuperCCD compacts and after a firmware update can take SDHC cards in addition to xD and SD.

I've still got my F30 going strong.

Always like the bright, punchy, colourful results of that large sensor, let alone the class leading low light performance for such a small point and shooter.

I would be interested if there was an equivalent size model today with a little more wide angle and zoom.

Some say the it’s only the processor that’s really different. I do actually get better results from my F30 and F31fd cameras.

If I recall, the F20 didn't have the manual control that the F30 had.

I fondly remember those cameras. I had an F10, F11, F30, several F31fd's, F40fd, F45fd, F47fd, F50, F60, F70, F800, and now F900. The only old camera I still shoot is the E550.

It takes good photos even after all these years. It is simple and uncomplicated. I have full manual control and I can shoot RAW with it.

Fuji's closest equivalent to the F30 today is the XQ1. It's expensive as it is a new release but the price should come down.

The model it replaces is the XF1 which is being sold at discount now it's being discontinued.

The Sony RX100 is also worth mentioning.
