I discovered that if I connect the A99 to an external monitor using HDMI, the monitor doesn't show the assistant grid lines (1/3 etc). Does anyone have any experience with this? Or tips? I would like to use a CLM-V55 on DSLR monitor for example for field photography, but I like to use the grid. Thanks!

Does any other info show on it? What is the "HDMI info. Display" set for? (Menu under the wrench ->2).

I tried switchting ON and OFF the "HDMI Info Display", but it doesn't change anything. Also I can't get on the LCD screen and the external monitor simultaneously. Isn't this the function of the "HDMI Info Display" button? To get the image on one screen or both?

This is really annoying for me, too. I bought the ILCE-7R and it shows the exact same behaviour. I contacted Sony Europe support and they could not provide a solution.

I ended up buying an HDMI-grabber that transfers the camera's HDMI-signal via USB to my computer. And there I can use any ruler application on top of the displayed live view. Not nice, but it does the trick.

No. HDMI Info Display determines whether the monitor displays recording information (text) or not. However, I believe it only applies in video mode.

Also, I can confirm:

1. The grid cannot be displayed through HDMI.

2. Connecting an HDMI device always turns off the camera's own display.

Used to use an acetate and an overhead marker to outline the live area / overscan
