Good Morning All,

If you are in Europe, Asia or Australasia I need your help.
I am putting together a PowerPoint presentation on Egrets and Herons of the World. Would like your quality photos of Egrets and Herons from your parts of the world.
Can’t pay you but will give you credit. Images should be .Jpg, 6” x 8” 240 dpi. Please send to [email protected] along with ID, and location, if possible.
Thanks so much for your help.
Richard

If you are new here, all cameras and lenses are welcome!

Please help us keep the BIRD from becoming a confused mess.
1. Please post your photos first, a maximum of 5 or 6, please. Post again if you need, as replies to this (first) post before you view or comment on other posts.

Please ID your birds, we have readers all over the world and some may not know yours. Images should be

2. IMPORTANT: please replace the Sunday BIRD title in the Subject window with one that describes your photos or they will be missed.)

3. After that, make any comments you wish on the photos already posted.
4. Please don’t put your photos inside a reply to another poster, because the rest of us won’t see them.

5. It is not necessary to thank each person who make a minor comment on your photo(s). Sometimes there have been so many of those that dpReview cut us off at the 150 post limit! So, if you wish to say thank you please do it once for all those who commented. Thanks.

Very nice series, Richard. I love looking at habitat photos of birds. Sometimes, because of the circumstances of nest location or other factors, the photography is not the best but it shows us how the avian population lives. Your images are very fine.

Hi Richard (I sent you a PM re Heron images)

Here are some more backyard birds from Sydney . . .

Peter

.

Taken a few weeks ago moments before sunset, this Sulphur-crested Cockatoo is perched up high catching the last orange rays.

A long shot using the E-5 + ZD300mm x 1.4 hand held, Raw PP in LR4, tight crop

.

Galahs diving from my neighbours chimney into my backyard.
In Australian slang, a "galah" is a silly person, a fool or clown.
If they saw me my neighbours would have thought I was a galah standing in the backyard just after sunrise on a freezing winter's morning pointing a huge camera up into the sky.
Even with the ZD300mm wide open at f/2.8 and using ISO 800 on the E-5 I was limited to 1/1600 sec for these shots - not quite fast enough. C'mon Olympus, where's that E-7 ?

And finally a little bit of drama . . .
I was watching this Spotted Turtle-Dove walking down the ridge of the neighbour's roof, hoping for him to fly up into the morning sunlight for a BIF shot. I took one quick shot to confirm exposure and then he was hit from behind by the local 'enforcer' an Australian Noisy Miner. No injury, just a reminder of who's in charge
