Wanted to replace my Sony A55. I do a lot of action shots (dog performance events) and distance wildlife & landscape, plus normal family protraits. Also video agility events. My Sony has an "intelligent" viewfinder-when you put your eye to it, the LCD screen turns off. I do 90% of video and stills through the viewfinder.

Got a t5i, and I am having a very difficult time using the LCD screen to video. I know how to turn the LCD off and use the viewfinder for photos, but can I do the same for video? You can't always see the LCD when you are outside, so it becomes very hard to shoot outside video. I need a solution or this camera is going back and I'll end up with a Sony

I use the Hoodman loupe, simplest solution and works well.

Tip, if you decide to get the Hoodman.
You can adjust the focus on the Hoodman to suit your eyesight, this is done by turning the eyepiece end of the loupe. When you have set it to suit yourself put some black tape around it to hold it in that position as it can easily turned unintentionally, giving poor focus.
