Please explain your technique, and the gear you have used as well.

Gear: sony a850 + Minolta APO G HS 80-200, f/7.1, 1/640 s, ISO 200, +0.7 step, 200mm

Technique: Mounted on a tripod, 2s timer to minimize any vibration (as effective as mirror lockup as sharpness goes), use cable release. Shot raw, processed via ACR, and then Silver Efex for the final results

This Minolta lens produces some nice 3-D effect (good depth in color), and is quite sharp. Fits very well on FF camera.

Any suggestions is appreciated. :)

Nothing super fancy about this. A77 + Tamron 17-50mm, handheld. Mostly red channel used in B&W conversion.

Late day sun in the windshield of a locomotive rolling across the California desert, mountains in the distance.

This was a combination of lens flare and reflections of the late afternoon sun shining through the windshields of a locomotive cab as we rolled west across the California desert into the sunset. Shot with a Sony a57 hand held with the Sony 18-135mm, processed in NIK Silver Efex Pro 2 and Lightroom 4.2

Great shot moimoi. The contrast is excellent. A great composition with a superb balance of even the 'pedestrians' or visitors, especially those walking on the steps from the lower right.

The cloud cover and different tones couldnt be any more perfect for the shot. nice, brian

oh i almost forgot ..the building/resolution is excellent also. I almost forgot to mention the main subject because your whole composition and elements works perfect. You know that i am sure.

I didnt think i had a recent b&w..this was while i was checking a 1.4x converter..the picture was boring but i did a conversion and liked it..a little anyway. Picked a 'less than black' black point for contrast and oversharpened. almost added film grain but decided against it.

Used a tokina 100-300f4 and a vivitar 1.4x. Thank you,brian

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but the processing made this shot IMO. I shot the moon early in the AM fairly high in the sky in an effort to minimize atmospheric effects. I shot RAW, aperture priority, -1 EV (so as to not overexpose the moon), ISO-200 to keep noise low and f8 - the sweet spot of the lens. When processing, I had to further knock down the highlights quite a bit in order to bring out the darker parts of the surface. Finally, you'll get more surface detail shooting a partial moon rather than full.

Thanks for the nice comment. I took 3 shots at slightly different times. On the third frame, the lighting was very good. So good light is unfortunately the condition to take some nice shots. No good lights will lead to mediocre-good photos at best.

The Minolta 80-200 lens (I can only speak for the white version) is quite fantastic. Beautiful rendering, and sharp even wide open. For 1000-1100 USD, it remains a bargain compared to the more expensive 70-200 Sony version. The AF speed of the HS version (white lens) is absolutely phenomenal, even in poor lights.
