I like the first one, the other two have distracting backgrounds IMO.

I really like the second of these three. The portrait is flattering, the lighting is lovely, and the DOF is nice and shallow to minimize distraction of that background. To me it looks like an image that would be used in an ad for a college or bank, so hopefully that commercial look is something that you're going for.

I like the first one as a sort of "street photography". The processing is a little more gritty than the second and doesn't have the commercial look. It has a nice composition and good focus on the eyes.

The third IMO does simply look like a snapshot. The lighting is a little harsh and the people and colors and the background are distracting.

Hope this helps!

I don't claim to be an expert, but I think of environmental portraiture as having a little more environment in it, and that environment says something about the subject. Here's one of my mother, which expresses my feelings about her coping with the recent loss of her hsband of many years:

Cheers buddy!

Thanks very much for the comments, I agree the third is harsh, I used direct flash hehe.

And Im going to try and reproduce the second if I can, but I think I need to be evenn more aware of my backgrounds! Back to the drawing board!

Thanks you.

Hi thanks for the comment and example. I agree with you statement, infact I realised these shots weren't quite a environmental as they didn't show alot of the respect environments hence the speech bubbles, but they weren't entirely planned shots, but not particularly snapshots either :-D
