Hi all,

I have this lens and bought 2 different FD to Nex adapters but with both of them when I turn focus ring to infinity my lens focuses at about 5-6 meters. Beautiful images but I can't get further.

With the same adapters I am able to focus infinity with a 50mm FD lens so I don't think it is something related to adapters.

Anyone has this lens on Nex? Can you reach infinity? Do you think I would have to buy a special adapter for it?

Thanks a lot!

I have this lens and it focuses just fine to infinity. I would take it in to get repaired.

+1. Works fine on my NEX-7.

Just in case, are you sure it's mounted correctly? FD and nFD don't mount exactly the same... I would think the gap would be pretty noticeable, though.

Thanks. The lens make the click noise when attached, and it seems to be attached firmly. The shots are sharp but infinity equals to 6 meters... Would a nFD mount lens require a differend adapter? I have two FD to nex adapters...

I tested that at about 0.85meters (the shortest focus) it focuses objects at around 80centimeters, but to focus objects at 2.5meters I have to turn the ring on about 5 meters.

An object at a distance of 5 meters focuses when I turn the ring on infinity. Every object past 5 meters are out of focus.

Should it be an advice? Thanks a lot

This is my lens model

I have the same lens on an NEX-6, and it focuses to infinitely perfectly. It is also blindingly sharp:

Since many members are acquiring lenses but never had an FD mount camera, before I came to any conclusions I would see how it focuses on an FD mount camera.

If it doesn't focus right there, then it's the lens. If it does, it's the adapter.

One possibility is that it was adapted to some other mount and infinity was adjusted, causing it to be out now on your setup, a lens tech should be able to correct it in an hour or two.

thank you, do you think it is something I can correct by myself? I've calibrated infinity on a tamron sp 35-210 (by turning top lens element), disassembled and cleaned many zuiko lenses and a 50mm fd lens. Never tried to open this 85mm diamond, I hope it is not necessary to mess everything to reach the right screw to calibrate infinity... How could I do that? Could you please tell me what to do or link any useful guide?

Meantime I try to find a FD camera to test it, thanks a lot

You have been very kind, this is a precious feedback for me. thanks a lot!

No. Same adapter for old FD and new FD lenses, as well as even older FL lenses.

What exactly is all the wording on the barrel, please?

This is a magnificent lens, which sells for as much as $900 in excellent condition. If you have to ask how to do this, there is a 99% likelihood that you would do damage by trying. I had a damaged 50mm f1.8 FD given to me, and with the manual open in front of me, and my being quite mechanical and with the proper tools, it was a b*tch.

A reasonably competent repair shop will likely charge $50 or less to adjust this. I have owned this lens since about 1989, and it is one of the most magnificent pieces of glass I've ever owned. It is heavy as lead, but fabulous on my NEX-6.

1. It is the lens. There is no way you could get it mismounted enough to cause that big of an error and be hearing the click as you say. There is no difference between adapters. Since it works on your 50, the adapter is fine, the lens has an infinity adjustment problem.

2. If you are looking for instruction on how to do it yourself, don't do it yourself. Doing it yourself would be a fine idea on a throwaway lens, like a 50mm 1.8, but not on this. The ratio of cost to fix (low) vs. value of lens (high) says "Get it to a qualified shop"

Thanks a lot! Please suggest me where to have it fixed for 50$, I totally agree with you... this is a wonderful lens and 6meters should be fine for portraits but you know that sometimes you feel the need to go beyond :) If you know someone that could fix it for this price and accepts shipped lenses I would be very grateful...

thanks again!
