I'm thinking of getting the above lens used - the older unit without optical stabilization (as Sigma calls it). The price is much less than the new OS version. I will use this at 1/400 and faster shutter speeds for indoor sports. At the 1/400 threshold or higher will the absence of OS make any difference compared to the stabilized version?

No, it won't make a difference. I used that lens on a Canon 7D for a couple of years for basketball and it was great. I also have it in Sony mount for my A77 but the in body stabilization of the Sony doesn't change the results at these shutter speeds.

Agree, you won't miss IS/OS at sports shooting shutter speeds. I used one on my T1i and 60D for several basketball seasons and really liked it. On a crop I prefer the 50-150 focal range to the 70-200 when used for indoor sports. HSM does a nice job on this lens. Even though I now have the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II, I haven't been able to bring myself to part with the Sig. It is such a nice compact lens for a crop camera (don't know why they new version is the same size as their 70-200).

Another plus for the 50-150! I have it in Sony and Nikon mount; and also use it for indoor sports shooting!
