You are sending it back because they did not provide you a battery charger........which you can get on Ebay or Amazon for about $20, and they would probably throw in another battery as well?Diopter wrote:
I just received the NEX-3n.
Sony does not provide a spare battery charger for a $500 camera.
Do they expect, I would buy another NEX 3 unit to have the first one in opertion?!
:-((
Why don't you just use your smart phone then?
Jesus, the excuses for returns are getting more and more ridiculous.

If the vendor of such a "great camera" turns their back to me right after opening the box, I may expect even more unadvertised shortcuts embedded into the design of the device.
There is no second chance for the first impression.

Some people never grow up. Maybe DPR should open a forum for all the crybabies to save us all from their whining.Tuloom wrote:

Nope - the 6 doesn't come with a charger either, just a usb cable and wall transformer plug.captura wrote:

I've seen that reference before, but in reality, can a generic charger really damage a battery?Diopter wrote:
I do not see at the Sony web site any list of the generic chargers which would not void warranty of the battery if damaged .
Sony "genuine" charger cost $59.99 before taxes.

It is the amount you need to add to the real price of the newest NEX 3 .
You can go elsewhere--your prerogative for sure. However, I doubt you'll do better with your $$, even if you get 2 chargers thrown in on your next camera deal.Diopter wrote:
"Go elsewhere " - that what Sony is suggesting.
I am following their advise.

On the other hand, I prefer separate chargers myself. I find them handy for charging one battery whilst still using the camera with the other one in it, rather than having to tie up the camera for charging duties. Plus, I'm happier plugging in a charger to our sometimes-unstable mains electric supply (it shouldn't be, but sometimes is, despite surge protectors) than a camera - it's cheaper to replace (and less likely to be bothered by anything in the first place). Also saves the worry of physical damage if somebody accidentally yanks the cable and pulls the item being charged off whatever it's standing on for safety. Or treads on it, if it's already on the floor to avoid the risk of that!! Yes, I'm probably a bit OCD I know, but still...salla30 wrote:
I much prefer the USB charging. So convenient and universal. I have usb chargers all over the house for my cellphones, so now can charge cams anywhere also. None of that "oh s**t where's the charger gone?" after a few months of non-use (as I have had in the past with other cams). AND I can do away with having a drawer full of proprietary chargers for 101 different batteries/devices.
Thank you Sony!
That is the thing, 90% of the target market will likely prefer in camera charging. I like to keep a spare battery sitting in the charger so I can swap out and charge the other one. I will just keep the charger from my 3. I am going to invest in some USB charging electrical receptacles in my house so I can plug my devices in, since everything charges that way.PhilouG wrote:
I was surprised at first too, but then I though charging with the body allowed to travel even lighter without one more brand specific charger to pack in my bag.
I'm now conviced it's better this way, more cheaper, more ecological, more travel friendly.
I don't need the charger for my daily usage and if I really were a heavy shooter, I would buy a chinese charger.
