Two years ago i purchased a Sony Nex 5N. It was my first interchangeable lens camera, and it let me create terrific photos even in low light. But it was stolen 2 months ago and, after searching for weeks other camera brands, i decided to go with the Nex-5R. One of the great benefits i saw on this camera was the hability to upload photos directly to Facebook. It also promissed a better auto-focus for subjects.

Well, after i received the camera, i can say that the photo quality is still terrific. Great photos in low light, lots of functions that were not present in the 5N... but a very dificult wifi usability.

First, the hability to send pictures via wifi to tablets. Its a nice thing, but you have to change the wifi mode of the tablet to connect to the camera, and, thus, using this approach to send to facebook requires two steps. Its not a seamless approach.

Second, send it directly to Facebook. It require you to download the direct-upload in-camera app. At least my version, it keeps me asking to sign on with my password, and it sent an empty-picture to FB! In other words, a very bad implementation.

If you plan to use it as a click and shot, is a great camera, but for using wifi features... better try another one.

How about uploading to the PlayMemories Online service? Can it be done automatically?

Then you could download them on the tablet whenever you wanted by logging in on PlayMemories. Or not?

That may be a Facebook setting. When you connected to Facebook from your camera, it should have asked if you want save this device (or something like that). If you said yes, then it should have saved your login credentials.

I've always looked at the ability to upload directly to Facebook as a "parlor trick", but rarely use it. Much faster just to stick the memory card into the PC.

The last time I used the camera's WiFi was on a charter bus for a work event. I used the Playmemories Android app to connect a Nexus 7 tablet to the camera and copied over the pictures that I took. I was then able to make some quick edits on the tablet and send a few pix to FB for family and friends. The keyboard experience is much better on anything but the NEX-6.
