So being the butterfinger that I am, I dropped my camera on the floor with the Oly 14-150 lens on it. Now the lens does not auto-focus any more and I get an error message that please check the lens. I have tried other lenses and they seem to work fine so the camera body (E-PL1) seems to be ok. Is there any way to figure out what the problem is and to fix it?

Appreciate any help here.

Thanks

Barista.

Any help please?

The exact message says: "please check the status of a lens"

Likely it will need a trip to Olympus, unless you know someone with the right tools, know-how and clean facilities. And the repair cost may approach the cost of a new lens, depending on what's wrong with it. These days repairing anything often costs $100+ just to look at it, alas.

Just feel fortunate that the camera is still OK.

Considering today's prices for an e-pl1 or a 14-150 the op might have been better off having to purchase a new body.

To the op:
Some stores sell refurbished 14-150. The olympusstore on ebay.de in Europe or cameta camera in the US. You might want to check the price of a refurbished lens before sending it off to repair.

In the US, Oly apparently has a flat rate fee for lens repair (at least it did a few weeks ago when I called them about it) of $160. I'd give them a call and find out what their policy is...if that is the fee, it seems perfectly reasonable to spend it to get that lens repaired, as it is still substantially more valuable than the repair cost.
