i format cf card

dowmload D800 v102w

extract file then get the .bin file and drag or copy to the DCIM folder,i assume that is the the root folder on cf cardss

put card in camera and go to firmware verion folder only to find that the update is not highlighted

cant find file to install

any help

Cheers

Is your CF card set as the primary card? If you have a SD card use that if you don't want to change settings. I found that it wouldn't highlight Update otherwise.

Are you putting the .bin file in the DCIM folder? If yes this is wrong, do not put in the actual file just copy and place on cf card not inside DCIM folder. Hope I explained ok and this helps.

cheers mark.

Simply place the bin file onto the card outside any directories and the camera will recognise it

That step is where you went wrong. The "root" of any drive is what you see when you open the drive. Drag it there. Don't put it in the DCIM folder or any folder. When you open the card on your computer you should be able to see the *.bin file right there...next to the DCIM folder and anything else on the drive.

Seems you have followed the process fine. We did the same but the camera is not allowing any format of the CD card. Tried with another card, same issue.

We did get as far as the camera recognising the update file but would not update when we selected the YES option on the update. Nothing zilch! Waiting for a reply off Nikon.

Thanks for this, was pressing the option button. Using the 'OK' button bottom left works, perhaps Nikon should mention this in their instructions. It is updating as I write.

I was having trouble with my D600 fw. I know the update was loading to my card but it would not work on my camera and I keep trying to load the card even though I new I was right. It would still not show in my camera. The battery in the grip looked full but for the hell of it I pulled it out and the camera switched to the in camera battery, Suddenly the fw showed in the camera menue and the update was completed.

On a Macbook Pro after download you open the download and this puts a file on the desk top.

Then you open the file on your desktop and get a second file - the one you put on the card.

If you are opening only once and putting the first file on the card nothing happens.

If you are loading the second file you should get an "update software" message within about 2 seconds. Then OK and it is done in about 3 minutes.

Being new to Mac it took me a few minutes to work out why putting the first file on the card did nothing.

Will try to answer in the best possible way

1) Download firmware

2) Unzip (it will create its own folder) onto desktop

3) Inside the folder you will see the file. (FW)

4) Use a card reader (not camera) but first format the card CF/SD

5) Open the folder and copy FW to card (do not copy folder just FW )

6) Remove card from Reader insert into camera .

last not not least.. MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERIES ARE FULLY CHARGED.

Hope this helps Good Luck

Also make sure you format card in camera ..

Good Luck..!!!!!
