I have a Nikon D7000 with the 18-105 kit lens and just purchased a AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D as my first prime. I didn't check the manual focus at the store and wish I had because I notice that when I manual focus through the entire range I can feel light resistance at four different points through the range of movement, accompanied by a low, faint clunking sound. Is this normal? It autofocuses great. Thanks for any feedback.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately it's a 3 hr round trip to the retailer where I bought it but maybe I can find a store in town that sells them for a comparison.

Doesn't sound right to me. Mine is smooth, no clunking.
