When I saw Phil's review of the F505 (back in September)with its big 5x optical zoom lens, I knew that was the camera for me. Before that, I would have gone for the CP950. I've had my F505 now for 7 weeks, and I haven't regretted it for one moment.

To my mind, the picture quality is superb: far better than I had imagined. I wanted to have a camera with which I could print out pictures on my photo printer to then put into my photo album, and you can do that and it still looks like a negative print when using glossy paper.

The addition of being able to record MPEGs, voice memos, etc. is just a bonus, and is great for putting on a web site.

The battery is excellent: I get around 60 minutes with the backlight on and 70 - 80 minutes with it off.

All in all, I am extremely happy with the F505 and would recommend it to anybody thinking about buying a digital camera.

Problems:

1) I would estimate that the LCD screen is fine for 95% of situations, so yes, there are a few instances where a viewfinder would be better, but for my requirements the LCD is more than good enough.

2) It would have been nice to be able to take MPEGs up to the limit of the memory stick.

3) The flash can be too bright for some indoor shots.
