Have owned it since November after reading Phil's (and other) reviews. I was close to a Nikon 990 and glad I held off. Prior digital experience was with the early Sony floppy disk 640x480 unit. The first positive comparison was the excellent LCD. It is quitr good in bright sun in which the early Sony was useless. Since I wanted to make decent prints, the G1 has worked well for me. (I use an HP 1220c large format and proper photo paper is very critical). I bought the 340Mb microdrive soon after the camera arrived, but after reading of MD problems will also add a 128Mb CF. Battery is good but I got a second as well as the dual charger. If I'm out all day, I want to be sure the battery doesn't die in mid day. A month after purchase and 1500 or so mostly test shots later, I got the 420EX, and both lens converters. While this is a pretty stiff total price, I feel the extra stuff is essential to get to minimum 35mm performance.

Problems:
These are minor irritations, but not serious:
* Only f8 is very unfortunate, but I guess typical of digicams
* My thumb keeps turning on the menu button in handling the camera
* The battery cover occasionally gets stuck at about 30 degrees causing a minor panic, but fiddling a bit seems to solve the problem.
* I find it almost impossible to take any sort of action shot requiring panning. The moving object is out of view on the LCD by the time the CCD is flushed. Perhaps continuous mode would help.G1 Mini Review
