Nikon Coolpix 990 review

I have used this camera for close to 200
pictures now. The image quality can be very
good if you know how to set it right. I found
that there are several design deficiencies:
1) if you have a wide angel lens, you can not
see through the lens, also the flash light is
blocked a lot. You will end up having bad
picture when the light is not enough. 2) the
flash light is also not strong enough. I had
950 before, I did not have the low light
problem - with 990, I tried slow flash, force
flash, I just can not make the picture bright
enough to be acceptable. So, I end up using
manual setting, it was fine afterwards. 3)
the lens cap is a bad design, it should be
part of the lens. The lens string can not be
secured on the body, it can only be secured
on the belt. When you need to use a tripod,
it gets tangled easily to the tripod and the
cap can break easily. 4) Auto focus is too
delicate, it ends up with very difficuly
foucsing. If you set it to be in auto mode.
The auto focus works all the time and make
the focusing difficult. One very slight move
of pictured objects will make the camera out
of foucs.
However, if you know how to set it up
correctly using manual mode, you can make
terric pictures. I am very pleased with the
quality when this is set up correctly and
precisely.

This camera is really not a camera for
someone who is digital shy. It needs some
customization in the features setting to
fully take advantage of it.
