Having worked as a semi professional photographer over the past ten years, my experience with traditional film cameras has been quite extensive. To this day I have mainly used both Hasselblad and Nikon cameras, which have met all my needs. As such, my expectations for a digital camera are very high yet I did not want to outlay the money on a D1 or equivalent for my first dabble into digital photography.
I have withheld purchasing a digital camera until now and have used this website as my primary research to narrow down my choice to a Sony S85 which I ordered last week. Luckily for me, Sony refused to supply this camera to my choice of retailer. In Australia, this model is sold only thru a select number of stores (I have purchased some 15+ cameras from this store over the years and consumed much of this salespersons time for this purchase so I wasn’t going to hand over my money elsewhere!)
I made the decision to go with the G2 due to Sony's attitude. I did not even consider the Canon initially being a Nikon user for so many years. Many stores in Sydney where out of stock of the G2 so I ordered and purchased it based solely on this sites review, sample images and owner comments (A big thank you)
I have already shot over 200 images on the G2 and all I can say is wow! Had a couple printed at my local digital lab and at 8x10 they compare favourably with anything that my Nikon can output.
For anyone looking at purchasing a digital camera in this price bracket (AUD2000) then do yourself a big favour and have a close look at the G2.
A first class effort from Canon and highly recommended.
Problems:
The USB socket housing cover could have been constructed better.
