I have been very impressed with the G2 overall. The camera works great in Auto mode but also features a large selection of preprogrammed modes too. These allow you to capture a wide variety of shooting with minimal thinking.
If you decide you want to have greater contol over the photographic process, you can move from Auto to full manual or anywhere in between. The contorls for this process are very easy to use and seem to be intuitve.
The included remote control is good but could be better. It only activates the "timer" and doesn't allow you to press and shot photos instantly. That would have been a nice feature.
The LCD is clear and crisp and moves all around for viewinf from most any angle. You can also hook up a TV monitor to view on any television. Cables are included.
One thing that has really impressed me is the battery. It has an incredible life making the need for a second battery and/or 12V charging kit useless. I personally can shoot 300 to 500 photos using the LCD on 1/2 on a single charge. (FYI: I bought the extra battery and 12V charging kit when I got the camera - I didn't know!)
I do suggest the 420EX Speedlite for an extrenal flash. It allows a much wider variety of flash options than the on camera flash which is typical of any point and shoot (digital or film). One thing to note, the 420EX does prefire a small flash just a fraction of a second before the main flash and snapping the picture. This isn't noticable to humans but does trigger any flashes or studio lights being triggered by the on camera flash before snapping the picture.
I think almost anyone would be very happy with the G2 and it does an awsome job.
