More on the 10X zoom! Owned this for a month now, bought it used in Hong Kong and immediately took it to Phuket, Thailand during Xmas vacation. I know a lot has been said about the 10x zoom with stabilizer ability, but let me share with the reviewers my experience on how useful this feature really is. We were on a fishing trip off Phi Phi island on a boat doing drift fishing, water was not too rough but the boat was definitely bouncing left and right. As we were fishing, we spotted a naked person doing sunbathing (face down) on one of the remote beach at least couple of hundred yards away, all the guys and gals in the boat stopped fishing but started yelling and guessing the gender of this person. I yanked out this camera and put on max zoom and snapped a few pictures in the rocking boat. Each of the pictures came out perfectly focus and clear and I found out that the person was an overweight guy! I’ve been a serious photographer for a long time and own more than 15 cameras of different brands and formats, let me just say that I was truly impressed with the results of this 2100z and I don’t know what SLR equipment I could have in that boat that could have given me the same results without breaking my back carrying them!
I also owned a Fujifilm S1 Pro for more serious digital shooting, e.g. something that require higher pixels and better flash capability. But with this 2100z so capable and light, I’ve been using it a lot more than my S1 Pro now! This is no doubt a keeper for a long time to come!
Problems:
None whatsoever even though I'm the second owner. The batteries seems to last shorter than my S1 Pro as both used 4 AAs, I think the stablizer does suck up more juice but worth every bit! Wish there is a hot shoe rather than a proprietary Olympus flash sync cable!
