I read all of the comments about this camera before I bought it, so I knew what to expect going in. The Dimage7 does consume a lot of power (like most digital cameras do), but I have had good results with Rayovac rechargeable 1600mAH batteries along with the Rayovac PS3 charger. I have taken 60-80 photos on a set of batteries using the flash and the LCD. Understand that this may vary depending on what quality and size combination you choose, time between shots, etc. I have 3 sets of batteries and always keep at least 1 set topped off and ready to go.
I plan on purchasing the PowerEx 1800mAh AA NiMH batteries with the Rayovac PS4 to improve the battery life even more and reduce the recharge times to 1 hour for 4AA batteries.
I am an ameteur photographer, but I have taken some brilliant photos with this camera. When I show people my pictures, I'm looking for a comment about the content of the photo, but instead the standard response is, "what a great photo!" They can't believe the pictures came from a digital camera. Good luck!
Problems:
No complaints yet. And I'm hard to please too.
