I've been an amateur photographer for 20 yrs but only recently I'm a beginner at digital photography. I have had the DImage 5 for 2 months and I'm very pleased with it. This is my second digital camera after making the mistake and purchasing my 1st (Phillips/Magnavox) when they burst on the scene a few years ago.
I like the grip and handling of the camera. It gives you the feeling it's like a 35mm than a digital camera. It has a great zoom and the functions to me are very simple to use. It does eat up batteries quickly but I carry a second pair with me. I found that taking indoor pictures I rarely use the flash, which is good to a ceratain extent. I was all set to purchase the DImage 7 but 3.35 meg pixals vs. 5.0, unless you're going to blow up your pictures larger than 8x10 then it's not worth paying the extra dollars. If you have to use it manually it's fabulous. The manual focusing is silky smooth. I highly recommend this camera if you want above average digital photography.
Problems:
The grip heats up after taking more than 1/2 dozen shots. Had some trouble with transfering pics directly from the camera. I solved this by purchasing a data cartridge/smart card drive. Well Worth IT, plus it's much faster and easier to transfer pics. The advantages far out weigh the disadvantages.
