I've had some time to compare this to the D100, which I also own. The ability of the this camera stands up very well against its younger higher megapixel sibling. Its user interface is better; its metering, focus speed, and build quality are at a much higher level. While I use the D100 alot for personal use, the D1X is my goto camera for my more critical photography.
Problems:
Need a wider angle zoom than the 17-35 afs
While dust is an issue, it is not insurmountable.
Flash photography could be more consistent. The batteries that this camera uses are no match for the D100's Li-Ion. They need to be charged before use, if they have been dormant for prolonged periods. The D100's don't seem to have that problem.
