S40 owner since early May 2002. Some of the deciding factors for me were size and how much I was willing to spend at this point on digital photography. I've been a film photographer for nearly 30 years. I wanted to have the flexibility of digital added to my hobby but liked the small sized and fair price of the S40...it fit my needs at this point in time. I see it as a complement to my film camera and lenses.
Its compact size has made this a take-anywhere camera. It has proven to be a very creative outlet for my photography.
Its many setting...aperture, shutter, p-mode, manual, etc. make this camera very versatile to the knowledgeable photographer.
Problems:
Is there a perfect camera? Whatever you buy, you must learn to adapt to the camera's strong and weak points...that is the challenge of becoming good at your craft.
