I originally bought the Coolpix 5000 but replace it with the C4040 as I was not happy with the noise introduced with ISO > 100. The C4040 build quality and f1.8 lens is a definite positive. I prefer the NiMh AA batteries as the battery life is excellent (2-3hrs1.8Ah) and incredibly inexpensive. I would have preferred Compact Flash, as the read/write is noticeably slower with SM. Picture quality is great, but I stick to 1024 x 768 so sometimes I wonder why I buy 4mps. I find the 15s movie length is too short. Sometime I start recording too earlier for the event I want to capture, then when I stop recording with intent to start again, I must wait for the movie to write SM (>10s), by then the event has past and I’ve missed it  I really like the look of the camera, but sometimes prefer that I had a more pocket sized camera. Generally the C4040 delivers as expected, with no nasty surprises, so I am happy with my purchase.

Problems:

I am having difficulty with portrait pics. It is difficult to soften the image. I have tried reducing the sharpness and contrast and increasing the exposure but overall the pics are not flattering. Anyone with advise is welcome. Party snapshot pics are too embarrass to send...
