Having come from a normal SLR camera direct to this digital - there has been an acute learning curve.
I have found the image quality excellent - and in low light good. I personally prefer manual controls - rather than the almost mandatory - these days - camera built for the dummy. The manual controls on this unit are not the easiest to use.
Perhaps the most obvious limitation I have found is the fixed focus distances under 500mm. In low light the apperture opens and the depth of focus is reduced.
Only being in focus at the fixed 100mm - 200mm etc. is limiting in getting the entire subject in focus, if the camera is at 150mm distance from the subject matter.
This results in a lot of wasted images - as they are often out of focus, due to the fixed focus distances.
Even manual control does not override the fixed distances.
About half of my work is macro related - and this has been a severe limitation - that perhaps Sony should work on. I have been quite frustrated by this limitation.
Additionally the pre set zoom is a little annoying. I would prefer to have this set at the end of the zoom length, rather than about 20% zoom as a pre set.
Certainly not a camera for any speed work - but overall a huge improvement on what has been available in the past.
Excellent for portrait work and handy for landscapes etc.
Problems:
This camera does not work well with the average CDRW.
Even buying the Mavica Brand - I have had an inordinate number of discs show "disc error".
This fault often only shows up when you are 'finalising' and writing the final image to the disc in jpg format.
One interstate trip and all images wasted for me there.
