Having used 35mm SLR's for many years, I bought the P71 recently as an "interim" point and shoot camera that anyone in the family could use. We have experienced non of the problems with "erie greens" or blue flashes. The colours have been accurate and the pictures quite sharp. The focussing light is an absolute dream! I tried the Olympus C720UZ and had nothing but problems with low light focussing. Not so with the P71. Backyard night party shots have been surprisingly good, considering the small flash. Daylight shots in high contrast situations show good detail in the shadows. Best of all, the camera is so easy to use - pick it up - turn it on - shoot.
I can't understand why some posters are claiming the P5 has better quality photos. The lenses are similar as are the electronics. In fact, it is my understanding that the P71 is the latest version of the P5 and is less expensive because of the non priority batteries and the "plastic" body.
